Don’t do it out of peer pressure

Your friend got that pixie and you can’t wait to try it on yourself? Here’s the bad news—just ‘coz it worked for your BFF doesn’t mean it will work for you. Shailesh explains, “There are a variety of factors that go into creating a haircut. People often get haircuts to copy their friends or to satisfy their rebellious streak when they go through a breakup. That’s not the way to go in for a haircut. You need to be sure you want it for yourself and that you’re truly ready for a makeover.”
Know the kind of haircut you want

The first step of getting a haircut is knowing exactly what you want. Many of us have a rough idea but seem tad bit confused when we actually begin conversing with our hairstylist. “Many assume that a short haircut is only a boy cut. The hair scene has advanced enormously and it’s not just about going all short when talking about a short hairdo. Don’t associate your childhood fears of having your hair chopped off with this one because this is actually gifting yourself a makeover.”
Consult before making the decision

It’s okay to be in a dilemma when it comes to the haircut you want. It’s best to take your time and know what works best for you rather than speeding things up only to regret it later. This is why you should make an appointment with your hairstylist and talk to him/her at length about your fears, what works for your face, etc much before you actually go in for a haircut.
Do your research

Ever thought how easy it would be for your hairstylist to actually see you tell him/her what you exactly want? Plus, it’ll just save him time! Shailesh says, “If you’re planning to get a fringe—know that it’s a big commitment. Also be aware that hairdos are largely dependent on face cuts.” So while a fringe suits your friend with a big forehead, it won’t quite work for your tiny face. That’s not all, it’ll be helpful if you do an in-depth research reading reviews of the hairstylist you wish to go to. This will help you make the decision faster.
Keep maintenance in mind

Shailesh explains how a haircut often depends on the texture of your hair, “If you have curls and are aiming for a certain haircut, it works to know beforehand as to how you will maintain your curls. Similarly, if you have long hair and don’t want to go too short but want a change in the form of a fringe, you should be aware that caring for a fringe is a tough task and you must go for it only if you’re up for that.”
