The Truth Behind Premature Greying

50 Shades of Grey—no longer just fiction? Don’t be startled because more and more young men and women are noticing the onset of premature greying. Doctors attribute this to hormonal imbalance, hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, malnutrition, pernicious anemia, nutritional deficiency, using electric dryers and concentrated hair dyes, as well as genetic disorders. Here’s our guide to help you better understand the problem.
the truth behind premature greying 500x300

Trichologist Dr. Sonal Shah pegs the condition of premature greying down to two potential causes, “First is a faulty diet and second, mental worries. Lack of some B Vitamins, iron, copper, and iodine in the daily diet are said to be contributory factors. Mental stress also produces extraordinary tension in the skin of the scalp, which interferes with the supply of nutrition necessary for good hair health.”

While the debate on whether stress is indeed a contributor to the drizzling of white hair you begin to notice in your twenties continues, one school of thought definitely seems to be subscribing to that view. For all our analytical readers scouting for the scientific proof for this premise, we strongly recommend a ‘better-safe-than-sorry’ approach. It is highly advisable to tone down the level of stress you subject yourself to in your twenties and consciously endeavor to take a break every now and then. Grey hair prevention or not, the harbouring of such a lifestyle will most definitely go a long way in preventing a whole host of other health problems like blood pressure and other related heart conditions.

Unfortunately, while greying is indeed an irreversible condition, correcting your vitamin deficiencies and ensuring a well-balanced, nutrition-rich diet can at least prevent it. A regular healthy diet, a disciplined lifestyle, proper scalp and hair hygiene practices and a deliberate attempt to kick-back every once in a while are a few preventive measures that are not particularly difficult to adapt to.

For those of you who have already missed the bandwagon on the preventive cure and can already spot the hints of silver in your mane, try not to stress further and exacerbate the colour metamorphosis.
