Why towel-drying your hair is a strict no-no

*Trigger warning* This article is going to make you break your good old habit of towel-drying your hair!

As kids, we remember our moms vigorously drying our hair with a towel right after a hair wash, and we’ve blindly carried this habit with us into adulthood. You’ll be surprised to know that towel-drying your hair is the biggest hair sin you’re committing because unknowingly, this habit is damaging your lovely tresses. Yes, you read that right! From frizz and breakage to split ends, the terry cloth towel is your biggest enemy, girl! So, get rid of it before it is too late.

Here are all the reasons why you should toss that towel right away:

Roughens up the cuticle

Wet hair is in its most vulnerable state, hence easier to break. When you rub your hair rigorously with a coarse towel, you are roughening up the soft cuticle which is the outermost layer of your hair. This, in turn, tends to cause frizz and breakage.

Gives you split ends

As much as you want to keep your hair free of split ends, your everyday habits are only making it worse for your hair. When you wring out water too hard with a towel, your hair shafts tend to become rough, thereby worsening your split ends and causing small tears along the hair shaft.

Loss of moisture

By drying your hair with a towel, you are stripping your hair of its natural moisture, and this in turn leads to frizziness and dryness. Frizz is a major sign that your hair is in dire need of moisture and nourishment. Therefore, if you feel that your hair is turning frizzier by the day, your towel is to be blamed!

If you’re wondering what to use in place of a towel to dry your hair, we’ve got you covered! A soft cotton T-shirt or a microfiber towel is what you should be using instead, because this will not only absorb excess water but also reduce frizz. All you need to do is simply blot and squeeze your hair dry and not vigorously rub the hair together.
