Everyone knows what blotting means or how tying a top knot can help you deal with a bad hair day. But recently, many varied beauty, makeup and hair care terms have arisen, some of which leave us clueless. That’s why we’re updating the beauty handbook with the hottest makeup and beauty terms on the block.
Overlining

The process of applying a lip product outside the natural lip line to give the impression of fuller lips.
Strobing
The application of a highlighting product on areas where light naturally hits your face; namely, the bridge of your nose, the base of your forehead, your chin, your cheekbones and your cupid’s bow.
Cut crease

An eye makeup technique where the crease of the eyelid is overly defined with eye shadow and is visibly separated from the brow area.
Baking
The application of loose powder over areas which are highlighted and colour corrected. The powder is left for a short period of time, following which, the excess is dusted off. The process of baking is carried out to absorb the excess oil that the skin secretes post base makeup application.
Tontouring

A low maintenance method of contouring which involves applying a self-tanning liquid over the natural contours of your face. The product is applied under your cheekbones, beside the bridge of your nose, under your jawline and on the temples of your forehead.
Stippling

A base makeup technique where a finely fibered stippling makeup brush is used to lightly dot liquid makeup onto the skin. The stippling technique is used to lend natural coverage to the skin.
Root stamping
The concentration of mascara on the root section of the eyelashes with a gentle pressing motion. Root stamping lends the appearance of fuller, more dramatic eyelashes.
Sandbagging

The application of loose powder over select areas of your base makeup in order to prevent creasing. The powder is generally applied on the under eye area and around the lips to create a barrier which prevents smudging post which, the excess powder is dusted off.
Multi masking
The usage of multiple face masks, which are applied on various sections of the face in order to treat skin problems on different areas, especially in combination skin.
