This season, it’s all about rose tones on your eyelids. And if the vision that comes to mind is a saccharinely sweet look that will suit your pastry selection more than your makeup palette, we promise you that this shade is more versatile than you think. You can either amp up the drama or tone it down with shades that range from blush to bubblegum. Here’s how to make pink eyeshadow your prettiest look yet.

As pretty as a swipe of pink eyeshadow can be for the day, it still needs to be used sparingly to avoid looking overtly cutsey. “It works on its own on either very fair or very dark complexions while medium skin tones can use it in combination with brown or tan eyeshadow,” says celebrity makeup artist, Kapil Bhalla. For the evening, you can up your glam ante with a metallic pink that can be worn with a set of faux eye lashes and kohl. If you want to tone it down a notch, then wear a metallic pink only in the inner corners for maximum effect.

Wheatish skin tones look great with brownish pink eyeshadows. “Look for dusty rose, English rose, woody rose or warm pink colours. Fair skin can use petal, peach or baby pinks, while dark skin tones can use deep pinks combined with gold, copper or bronze tones,” advises Kapil. Powder, matte, pressed powder, pigment and water-based eye colours work best for our climate. He suggests experimenting with creamy textures only during winter months.

Love a hot pink but scared it will end up looking too over-the-top? Well, experts say that a fuchsia eye can be the hottest trend to try this season. “To wear it well, sweep the shadow like a thick eye liner and smudge upwards using a soft blending brush. Use a bit under the eyes as well. Use black kohl inside the eyes and finish using two coats of mascara. Keep the rest of the face clean and soft using neutral shades of peachy pink,” says Kapil. If you want something a little less dramatic, then simply use the hot pink or fuchsia colour as a broad extended eyeliner instead of as an eyeshadow. Keep the rest of the makeup very soft and neutral.

When opting for a stunning evening look, you can’t go wrong with pink and gold. “You can premix a pinch of both pigments and then apply on the eyes with a soft eyeshadow brush or use a matte pink on the socket area and a gold on the brow bone,” says Kapil. The Lakmé Eye Color Quartet in Dessert Rose can help you create the perfect party look. Keep lips soft in a neutral pink gloss.

When using pink eye makeup, ensure that you use warm tones on the rest of your face. Different shades of peach, coral, gold, brown and pink can be combined for lips and cheeks. Stay away from red or orange lips. Don’t apply blusher with too heavy a hand either. Keep it subtle. A bronzer, however, works brilliantly with pink-toned eyeshadow.
