The Right Way To Store Your Makeup

THE RIGHT WAY TO STORE YOUR MAKEUP
A messy and cluttered makeup draw has two serious set-backs: (1) When you are in dire need of that matte cream eye-shadow in dusty rose—it’s always impossible to find, and no, desert rose will not do the trick and (2) messy and cluttered means you haven’t been washing your brushes as often as you should and you haven’t been replacing old, grimy, bacteria-infested stock with a cleaner and more hygienic refill. Both these outcomes lead to your makeup not being on-point, and ladies that is never okay. Time for #BBIntervention—stand back as we give you the 101 on exactly how you need to stack those shades.

The First Step—Consistency

The first and foremost step to staying organised and on top of your lip kits, is finding a place in your dresser and sticking to it like glue. Get hold of a glass or tumbler and store all your brushes in there, keep your on-the-go makeup handy and in a reachable spot, lippies and salves in their designated drawer followed by lotions and mascara, powders and primers, palettes and the tools of the trade (eye lash curler, tweezers, etc.)—simple, find a spot and stick to it.

Divide and conquer

To give you more space, because there’s never enough product, use your drawer space wisely. Use drawer inserts and demystify a cluttered vanity. That way you can keep products from the same category (eyes, face, lips) in the same drawer while still distinguishing the purpose of each individual product (lip salve, lip buff, lip-liner, lipstick).

The perfume bottle/spice rack

Expiry date

If you’re getting down to business with your organizing, why not put a pretty spell on it and make things a little more glamorous. One way to do that is to show-off your perfume bottles with a little pizzazz. Enter spice rack. Take a spice rack and display all your perfumes and lotions on it and set it on your vanity.

Protect your products from UVA/B

Expiry date

This is especially important with your pigmented products—blushes, foundations, eye-shadows—where your goal is to retain the colour for as long as possible. Direct or significant reach to the sun can impact its formula. So make sure you keep these in a drawer or a makeup-bag, that’s out of the sun.

Finally, mark all your products with the date you opened it. That way you know when it needs to be tossed or replenished.

Mascara/Foundation = 3 months, lipstick/gloss = 1 year, anything you don’t wear regularly = 6 months.

Fresh off the yacht into this editorial world, I look forward to bringing in a fresh, beautiful perspective.
