Put the smoke out with these summer-worthy Smokey eyes

Smokey eyes are meant to be intense, dark and full of secrets but are they really? While dark and intense Smokey eyes are great for evening and winter outings, summer demands that you go with the ‘less is more’ makeup approach. Your summer makeup needs to be light, sweat-proof and easy-breezy on the eyes, quite literally!

Here is how you can wear a Smokey eye but make it summer friendly...

Avoid a melt down

If you must wear a Smokey eye during summer, then make sure it stays on and doesn’t melt away. Wear long-wear, waterproof makeup products obviously; but most importantly prepare well and create a strong base for your makeup. Start with an eye primer and apply it onto your lids, then follow it up with a concealer so your eye shadow lasts. Go for pastels hues

An ultimate trick to ace a summer appropriate Smokey eye is using pastel coloured eye shadows. Pinks and pastel eye shadows can make your eyes appear bright and natural. Eye shadow shades like pink, peach and off-white can all make one summer friendly Smokey eye shadow. Just apply the dark most hue towards the lash line and go lighter towards the insides.

Drop that black eyeliner

Why use black eyeliner when you can use colour? Use colourful eyeliner or an eye shadow to line your lashes. Make sure you use a shade that teams well with your eye shadow; use colours like silver, blue or pink so your Smokey eye is subtle enough for summer. This will also soften your Smokey eye and make sure it doesn’t look too harsh.

If you got oily eyelids

If your lids are oily, then make sure you apply a dusting powder after your primer and concealer and then create a Smokey effect with your eye shadow. Another trick to add a sultry edge to our summer Smokey eye is using a bronzer to warm up your eyes!

High on highlighter

Highlighting your brow bone and the inner corners of your eyes with a highlighter can add a fresh, lively touch to your Smokey eye.

Skip the lower lash line

Don’t use too much product on your lower lash line. Go light on your lower lash line and line it with a white or light coloured liner instead.

To make sure your soft and summer friendly Smokey eye looks ace, go with a colourful mascara! Skip a black mascara and go for a bright pink or purple mascara instead. However, if you are going for a bright, neon eyes then a black mascara shouldn’t hurt.
