To be honest, no one really needs a crash course on lipstick application. All you need to do is reach for your favourite shade and swipe it across your lips. It’s that easy! But, wait… if you’re someone who loves sporting a fuller, more defined pout, then a lip liner could add just the right amount of glam to your lip game.
Before you go in with your lipstick, it’s ideal to outline your lips to achieve a red-carpet-ready pout. To help you ace this little trick, we’ve got you covered with 4 tips to keep in mind.
- Tip #01: Enhance your upper lip line
- Tip #02: Outline, don’t overline with a coloured lip liner
- Tip #03: Always use a pointed lip liner
- Tip #04: Blur the edges with your fingers
Tip #01: Enhance your upper lip line

The biggest mistake most of us make with lining our lips is that we tend to enhance our lower lip, and this little mistake weighs the face down. Therefore, it is important that you pay more attention to enhancing your upper lip line. Overlining the cupid’s bow will instantly lift your lips, make them look fuller and add more definition.
Tip #02: Outline, don’t overline with a coloured lip liner

If you’re using a nude lip liner, then you can go ahead and overline your lips beyond your natural line. However, if you’re reaching for a coloured lip liner, then avoid overlining as that could look a little OTT and clown-ish. Outline your lips with a coloured lip liner if you want to achieve a fuller pout.
Tip #03: Always use a pointed lip liner

The thumb rule of using a lip liner is to always sharpen it before going over with it on your lips. A blunt lip liner can create a mess and leave you with a blurry, thick line. Whereas, a pointed well-sharpened lip liner can help you draw a thin line with precision. Even if you have to sharpen the liner more than once, do it. Or else, you won’t be able to achieve a pout-perfect look.
Tip #04: Blur the edges with your fingers

Here’s another basic lip lining rule that can give the illusion of a fuller pout. Once you’ve outlined your lips with a lip liner, use your finger to slightly blur the lip line on the outer edges. When you smudge it gently with your fingers, you will achieve a softer and more natural finish and at the same time, your lips will look fuller instantly. However, make sure you’re not messing it up or else it’ll look like a lipstick blunder.
