3 POWERFUL WOMEN GIVE US THEIR TAKE ON GLOSS & OTHER HOT TRENDS THIS SEASON
In the middle of all the chaos and drama of Lakmé Fashion Week, BeBEAUTIFUL found some time to catch up with Bandana Tiwari, Amrita Parekh and Purnima Lamba, three über influential women in the fashion and beauty space and asked them their take on this season’s biggest makeup and style trends, on the ramp and off it. Here's what they had to say…

Bandana Tewari — Fashion Features Director, Vogue India

BB: From all the fashion trends you’ve seen on the ramp so far, which ones do you see yourself wearing?
Bandana: What I liked very much was that young designers are using Indian fabrics but in a modern way so that you don’t feel like an ethnic clunk just to support the beautiful textiles of our country. I saw Ragini Ahuja (IKAI) layering five to six different types of weaves in a modern way with a bit of a ghetto touch. I also loved the sunset gold that Anavila used on her textile sarees. You know, I’m always encouraging people to cut up their sarees and wear them—jackets, pants, whatever it is.

BB: From all the beauty trends that we’ve seen so far, which are the ones that resonated with you?
Bandana: When I’m watching shows, I never really get to the face because I’m so focused on the fabric but I do see the creativity in beauty. As someone who’s watching, we’re always looking for trends that would filter down and that we could take with us; of course, that doesn't mean that I’d wear red eyebrows but the beauty narrative is beautiful, none the less. And yes, the smokey eye. I’ve been a fan since as long as I can remember.

BB: We’ve been spotting a lot of gloss across LFW and internationally as well, what are your thoughts on the same?
Bandana: I am all for gloss. I mean, who isn’t?

Amrita Parekh — Fashion Features & Beauty Editor, Grazia India

BB: From all the fashion trends you’ve seen on the ramp so far, which ones do you see yourself wearing?
Amrita: My favourite trend this season has been understated luxury; so everything from understated embellishments to a muted gold tone. I also love the whole revival of handlooms and textiles, which is totally after my own heart—those are the two trends that have particularly stood out for me.

BB: From all the beauty trends that we’ve seen so far, which are the ones that resonated with you?
Amrita: In terms of beauty normcore skin is very big trend for me. It works because it highlights the radiance on your face. I think understatement is the statement for this season – minimalist, sporty, glowing, healthy skin is the biggest beauty trend.

BB: We’ve been spotting a lot of gloss across LFW and internationally as well, what are your thoughts on the same?
Amrita: I actually love gloss, but I especially like the way it’s been done this time – they’ve glossed up only one feature, something I really love, and kept everything else matte. I’ve noticed glossy lids and matte skin or then there’s glossy lips and muted eyes – the contrast and difference in textures is what makes it interesting and gives it dimension.

Purnima Lamba — Head, Lakmé Innovation

BB: From all the fashion trends you’ve seen on the ramp so far, which ones do you see yourself wearing?
Purnima: I loved what I saw at the Quirkbox show, and I think they’re a very easy brand to wear and take me through the day as well as the evening. I loved a couple of dresses in the Shantanu & Nikhil show but I would reserve those for a red carpet event. I even liked what Dhruv did because I felt that he went from stark androgynous to a little more feminine this time.

BB: From all the beauty trends that we’ve seen so far, which are the ones that resonated with you?
Purnima: If I had to list my favourites, I think it has to be the White Eyeconic on the eyes. I’m glad it’s continued from last season to now. Of course, the glossy lips and I think everyone’s favourite is the smokey eye accompanied by a dramatic, winged liner, which I think is going to be even easier to do now that we have the Lakmé Absolute Gel Liners.

BB: We’ve been spotting a lot of gloss across LFW and internationally as well, what are your thoughts on the same?
Purnima: I think we’re seeing gloss at most of the shows and it’s a trend that’s led by texture, very much in the translucent space and hence, very wearable. If I were to interpret gloss in terms of fabric, it would be a lot of sheer in the day as far as casuals are concerned, and for the night, rich fabrics like organza and raw silk.
In terms of makeup, I think with a strong eye, you can wear a glossy lip or alternate between the two. In fact, I’ve been wearing gloss to work every now and then, one of my favourite Gloss Addict shades is ‘Nude Glow’, which is the easiest one to pull off at work, it’s almost like having nothing on but is still dressy enough to take you through the day.
