Remember the basics

There are a thousand products out there that promise various miracles for your skin. If you have the time to indulge and experiment, go for it. But if you are pressed for time, then don’t get distracted by all that you see. What your skin needs regularly is a cleanser, a wash, and a moisturiser. These are the basics. Find a cleanser that is easy to use, a face wash and a moisturiser. Your basic skin care routine should not take more than 5 to 7 minutes so that you don’t feel the urge to skip it.

The extras are an exfoliator and a face mask. Find a good scrub that is non-abrasive. Similarly, find a good face mask or two that is simple to use. If you make your own scrubs or mask, see if you can make them on a weekend; use it fresh that day and refrigerate a batch for the week, thus saving time.

Prioritise

If your mornings are super busy or you wake up late, don’t skip the routine. Work your way around it. Your skin does not need to be exfoliated every day, so skip the scrub. Just cleanse your face super quick, wash and moisturise. If you are running very late, skip the cleanser also; just make it a point to wash your face in the shower and definitely dab on a moisturiser and sunscreen. To save time, you can get a good moisturiser with a built-in sunscreen.

Multitask

You can always apply your face mask when you are getting your breakfast/lunch ready. It is advisable to not do any chores with a face pack on. But if that rule is not letting you use a face pack at all, then it’s ok to bend it a bit… Just keep your features composed and calm while using the mask and doing chores. You should exfoliate your skin twice a week. If time is sparse, keep the scrub in the shower and take 30 seconds to scrub your face in the shower itself. The day you exfoliate your skin; you can skip the face wash. Just rinse off the scrub and apply the moisturiser and sunscreen.

Make the nights count

Hopefully you have a little leisure time at night. Depending on how much time you have, you can use that time to apply your face mask in peace. You can choose to exfoliate your skin at night instead of during the day. Take 5 minutes to dab on your night cream and massage your face lightly after this. You can use your fingertips to tap your skin and stimulate it or use your fingers to massage your skin lightly. Cleanse and moisturise your face for about half an hour before going to sleep. You can finish your pending work or reading after this. This way, you give your skin enough time to absorb the cream instead of rubbing it all off on your pillow.

Secondly, make sure to get a good night’s rest. Your skin heals and rejuvenates when you sleep, so try to get 6/7/8 hours of rest a night.

Make your body your skin care partner

Eat foods that are good for your skin. This you can do no matter how busy you are. Instead of chips, eat dry fruits (especially walnuts). Get some flaxseed into your diet (you can add flaxseed powder to the chapatti atta, to your salads, when you bake and so on) Eat green vegetables cooked in less oil, eat fruits to get antioxidants and if you are non-vegetarian, eat salmon amongst other things. Skip the junk, eat healthy and get your body to help make your skin glow with internal health.

However busy you are, do try to get some skin loving into the day. Your skin will thank you in the long run and repay your kindness by looking great always!

Stay pretty!

XOXO
