THE ROSE LIBRARY—WEARING THE FLOWER AND THE COLOUR ON YOUR SKIN, HAIR AND LIPS
Poets, fair maidens, princes - all have given the rose due credit. Its fragrance has alleviated spirits, its exchange has brought kingdoms (and hearts) together, its oil remains a beauty potion, and when worn as a colour, it’s nothing short of scintillating. How else could you wear the flower and the colour? We explore the ways…

It might be one of the most expensive oils you’ll get your hands on, but it’ll give you your money’s worth. The intense hydrating properties of rose oil make it one of the sweetest smelling solvents for dry and itchy skin. Rose oil also helps to combat acne-ridden skin thanks to its naturally occurring anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Traditionally available in two varieties (rose otto and rose absolute,) it has long been a beauty staple of the royals.

Popular for its skincare benefits, rose water can work its magic into your mane just as well. The pH balance of rose water is a lot closer to that of your hair helping to maintain its porosity (and therefore hair health) and making it a more than welcome ingredient in your hair routine. As a natural antiseptic, rose water will soothe scalp infections and treat dandruff (over time) without you having to resort to harsh chemicals. The best way to get the most out of rose water? Add some to your shampoo to get high shine and super glossy locks.

If you haven’t received the memo yet, let us be the bearers of good news. Rose and rose tints are set to rule our lips all through 2014. Do we mind? Not one bit. It was about time rosy pink cheeks quit hogging the limelight and made way for rose-inspired lips. We’ve done our time with the glosses and what’s caught our fancy now is the lip colours. With the widest colour canvas from pretty pastel pinks, through royal rosy reds, all the way to the vamp-ish (yet sexy) dark mauves to play with, we’re in the affirmative about wearing one helluva popping pout now or later. More now than later, of course.
