Your skin is never off-duty. Even when you sleep, your skin goes to work and spends the night repairing itself. So why don’t you give it all the help it needs while you sleep, so you wake up looking fresh and relaxed? If you want your skin looking plump and glowing, here are some sleep time habits you need to follow.
- Satin or silk pillowcases are better for your hair and skin
- Your sleeping position matters
- Don’t forget your night cream
- Change your pillow cases often
- Stay away from salty foods and alcohol before you sleep
Satin or silk pillowcases are better for your hair and skin

Satin or silk pillowcases avoid your hair from getting tangled and your skin from getting creased. The smooth texture of the material causes less friction between your hair strands and is much gentler on your skin, thus helping prevent the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Your sleeping position matters

Try and sleep on your back, with a few pillows piled up. When you sleep on your side or on your stomach, your facial skin crinkles up, and this may cause fine lines to set-in permanently. Keeping your head elevated makes sure the area around your eyes remains un-puffy.
Don’t forget your night cream

Anti-ageing skin care should ideally start in your mid-20s. Make sure you apply a good night cream when you sleep, as your skin will utilise the nutrients present in the cream to repair your skin during the night. Look for a night serum or cream with hyaluronic acid which hydrates your skin and reduces fine lines.
Change your pillow cases often

No matter how much care you take with night creams and serums, if you are resting your head on a dirty pillowcase, it will undo all the hard work. Especially if you have children or pets at home, make sure you change your pillow case every few days.
Stay away from salty foods and alcohol before you sleep

Excessive intake of salt causes your body to retain water, which causes your eyes to look puffy. Excessive alcohol intake causes your body to get dehydrated, which causes your under eye area to look darker than normal. So avoid these just before you go to bed.
