WHY YOUR SKIN AND HAIR WILL LOVE HONEY
Honey has been used as a beauty staple since Cleopatra’s time. Beauty aside, Ayurveda suggests the use of honey as a natural energy booster that’s rich in a host of sugars, minerals and vitamins making it popular among naturopaths as well as dieticians. In fact, its healing properties as an antiseptic have even secured it a place in our DIY beauty routines today. Here are five reasons why you need to add a dollop of honey to your skin and haircare rituals …

Honey to fight acne
Honey has natural anti-microbial properties, which means that it protects your skin from infections and acne. When applied to the face, it absorbs impurities from your skin and cleanses the pores to fight acne caused by bacterial and fungal infections.

Make it at home: A mask made from honey, crushed oats and orange peel powder has anti-bacterial properties and helps to fend off acne.

Honey for healthy hair
An emollient, honey makes for a natural hair softener. That combined with its anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties implies that it also cleanses the scalp and controls or prevents it from any kind of scalp infections or dandruff.

Make it at home: For a natural conditioner, add a teaspoon of honey to five cups of warm water, mix thoroughly and apply the mixture all over your hair after you shampoo. Leave it on for half an hour and rinse off.

Honey as a body mask
Like we mentioned before, honey has intense moisturising properties that are required for more than just the skin on your face. When used with an exfoliating agent, honey makes for an excellent cleansing and moisturising body mask to leave you with smooth, supple skin.

Make it at home: A thick paste made with two teaspoons of ground almonds along with equal portions of honey and left on the body for 20 minutes makes for an excellent body scrub as well as a moisturiser.

Honey for hydrated skin
Since winters are around the corner, we suggest stocking up on your supply of raw honey. That’s because honey is a humectant, which means that the sugar content helps retain water in the skin and helps keep the skin hydrated, moisturised and supple.

Make it at home: For healthy skin, apply a thin layer of honey all over your face and rinse it off with lukewarm water after half an hour. You’ll notice that your skin looks nourished and feels smooth.

Not only does honey help disable any bacteria causing acne but when mixed with other natural ingredients, it even helps get rid of spots and stubborn acne scars. The easiest and most effective remedy (when repeated often) is to apply honey directly onto your scar and leave it on for half an hour before you rinse it off.

Make it at home: Mix half a teaspoon of cinnamon and lime juice each with a teaspoon of nutmeg and honey each and leave the paste on your face for 20 minutes (you might get a burning sensation because of the cinnamon and lime juice) before you rinse it off with warm water.
