WHY OIL IS THE NEW SAVIOUR YOUR SKIN AND HAIR NEEDS
The importance of oil has been imbibed in us since childhood, especially if you’ve grown up in India. We’ve even experienced it while having an exceptionally relaxing head massage followed by braiding oiled hair into two plaits. And while we’ve tried hard to emulate those habits even after growing up, it isn’t quite the same.

So life comes in full circle when oil has been touted as the saviour, not just in the kitchen but on the dresser as well, particularly for your skin and hair. Natural oils, with their numerous properties,  have come to be the miracle workers of the beauty routine and here are a few reasons why you need to add it to your cabinet stat!

Makeup remover

Massage

When it comes to removing even the most stubborn waterproof makeup, olive oil comes to the rescue. It even loosens and breaks down the waterproof substances present in makeup products such as like eye-shadow and mascara. The best part is, unlike traditional makeup removers, oil will leave your skin soft without drying it out.

Deep conditioning hair mask

Massage

With its Mediterranean origins, the oil of the argan nut has shown great promise. Massage it into your scalp (this also improves blood circulation), apply it on your hair and make yourself a nourishing hair mask. Once oiled, cover your hair with a shower cap and leave it for an hour. Popularly known as liquid gold, argan oil has fantastic healing and nourishing properties, which adds volume and shine. Once you’ve washed it off, you’ll be left with nourished, smooth hair.

Oil-pulling

Massage

Coconut oil is the secret agent of the beauty world that quietly goes about its business while getting the job done to perfection. One of those secret benefits is whiter teeth, better breath and stronger gums by oil-pulling, which is an Ayurvedic technique of swishing oil in your mouth on an empty stomach for 20 minutes in order to draw out toxins and elevate your oral health. The process can take some getting used to but a week into practising this habit and the difference will be apparent.

Oil cleansing

Massage

It might sound odd to cleanse your skin with oil but there’s physics to back it up. Since oil dissolves oil, a natural external oil on your skin combats the oily sebum that your skin gives out. When massaged onto your face, it loosens up impurities that have set in your pores. First combine a cleansing oil like sweet almond, jojoba or grapeseed with a carrier oil like castor oil, which is an antibacterial dissolvant in equal proportions. Massage it gently onto your face for 2 minutes and then let it sit for 30 seconds on your face. Then place a washcloth which has been soaked in hot water on your face, leave it there for 30 seconds and wipe off the oil from your face completely. The process will open your pores and remove toxins without a trace without the use of any chemicals that will dry out your skin.

Massage

Massage

Not only does a massage feel rejuvenating but it is good for you too! Add in a stimulating essential oil such as a peppermint, eucalyptus or bergamot and you will can create the overall sensation of an aromatherapy massage, which aids in relaxation while reducing anxiety and stress. Each oil is created for a certain purpose whether it be to calm, to energize or to embolden, making it the right choice at the end of a long day!
