Have you ever thought that the water you bathe with could be causing your skin problems? If not, here’s a fact for you: water often contains harmful metals that can damage your skin.
We often take measures to protect our skin from air pollution but protecting it against water pollution is just as important.
Here’s how water pollution affects your skin…
It contains arsenic

Arsenic is present in water that passes through rocks that contain arsenic. Even in small amounts, it is harmful to your health and skin.
It’s full of chlorine
This disinfectant can cause lasting damage to your skin if not appropriately cared for. Chlorine strips the natural oils from your skin causing skin irritation and rashes.
It’s acidic

When a lot of pollutants are present in water for a long time, it turns acidic. Acidic water disrupts the pH balance of your skin by stripping away the protective layer from your skin.
It has harmful metals
Heavy metals like zinc and copper can be found in polluted water. Industrial waste is the reason these metals enter fresh water and cause clogged pores and dull skin.
Here’s what you can do to prevent polluted water from damaging your skin…
Filter the water before use

A filter will prevent impurities like zinc and chlorine from passing through, giving you purified water.
Neutralise the effects

To prevent harmful pollutants from damaging your skin, treat it with a moisturiser as soon as you step out of the bath. It will not only block the free radicals but will also reduce dryness caused due to chlorine.
