An expert explains why injectable skincare is gaining popularity among millennials

Skincare practices among millennials have seen a massive shift in ideas and approaches in the last decade. The young and the restless are more adventurous now and do not mind shelling out on clinical procedures once in a while. Not too fancy, but things like photofacials and HA (hyaluronic acid) injections are getting more popular by the day. Many women are getting over their fear of needles and getting anti-ageing treatments done sooner. To get a better idea of why the trend is gaining popularity among millennials, we reached out to Dr Sravya for her expert opinion.

According to Dr Sravya, “These days, nobody wants to look old.” So, what do we do about it? “The most effective way is to take preventive actions to help keep ourselves looking as young as we can, and as long as we can. And increasingly, millennials in their late 20s and 30s are considering Botox and other facial rejuvenation procedures in a desire to look younger,” she says.

Dr Sravya credits innovation and a change in perception about these procedures for their rise in popularity. “Cosmetic procedures have come a long way in the past decade. The prices have dropped, and its effectiveness has increased. For instance, modern Botox treatments are a pretty affordable procedure, even though they are quite complicated. Also, social media and celebrities have helped normalise the idea of having these procedures performed as well. In the past decade, we have seen all of these treatments go up almost ten-fold.” A staggering rise, indeed.

Even though the name might suggest otherwise, injectables are not extreme procedures and are almost compared to putting on makeup or going to the salon. Millennials don’t give these procedures the same treatment as their parents did; they are no longer a taboo or done secretly done in hush-hush appointments. Contradictory to that, there has been a rise in the trend where millennials are going in for injectable treatments with groups of friends and posting it on social media!

Some of the common treatments that women are opting for are focused at fading scars, beautifying as a whole, fighting signs of ageing, or enhancing their facial features. Some of the in-demand procedures include:

01. Natural and artificial fillers: These fillers are used to fill in wrinkles, hollows and fine lines on the face. They can also add volume if somebody wants to address sagginess. They are also good if you want higher cheekbones, plumper and hydrated lips, or change in face shape.

02. Botox: A neurotoxin called botulinum toxin helps temporarily smooth out wrinkles and causes them to relax.

Since ageing is a natural process and can affect you sooner or later, doesn’t mean you just have to take it lying down. When done early and with a positive attitude, treatments like Botox can be beneficial for those who want to keep themselves looking youthful for as long as possible.
