Floral sundresses

This summer, the one fashion trend that you will see in South Korea is the iconic floral sundress—albeit with K-pop idols adding their own twist to it from Somi to Girls’ Generation’s Seohyun. Yerin went for a summery concept for her solo debut for which she opted for cold shoulder dresses or long flowing pastel dresses with hairbows that highlight her charms. Meanwhile, Blackpink’s Lisa added an edgy touch to the classic sundress silhouette by pairing it with a baseball cap and The Matrix-inspired glasses that are making a comeback.

Low rise bottoms have always been a daring fashion move. But with Miu Miu bringing the style back with their low rise miniskirts, they just might change our minds. Girls’ Generation’s YoonA recently opted for a casual route by pairing an oversized shirt with a beige frayed skirt. But if your 3-hour gym routine is finally paying off, flaunt your body like Miu Miu’s Korean ambassador Wonyoung of IVE who showed off her toned stomach with a crop top to ace the look.

In 2022, we seem to be going for the ‘less is more’ route as idols are doubling up scarves as tops or picking backless tops perfect for the summer look. Whether it’s Sunmi or Loona’s Heejin, backless tops are the most popular go-to. Blackpink’s Jennie debuted her new avatar for Coachella with orange hair, minimalist makeup and a backless string top while (G)I-DLE’s Soyeon went for a grunge look with a backless knitted pullover.

Seemingly, the corset is one fashion trend that South Koreans love, seeing how effortlessly they pull it off. Blinged up corsets further add to the wow factor. Case in point? TWICE’s iconic red outfits for their LA concert spawned all kinds of versions of rhinestone corsets. We also saw Kep1er’s Xiaoting opting for the popular Dolls Kill rhinestoned corset while Red Velvet added corseted outfits to their artistic concept which Joy easily embodied.

You might just want to beg your grandmother to remake that knitted sweater you hated in your childhood because knitwear has become one of the most popular choices for a casual outing (if the style of fashionistas like Key of SHINee or Wonho is to go by). Stray Kids’ Felix went for a clash of the patterns by pairing a cheetah print with a knitted vest while STAYC’s J recently showed us how to wear a knitted crop top in any weather.

If there is one thing we have learned about K-pop fashion trends, it is that stylists and idols love making a statement so that even the most boring outfits turn chic. Take NCT’s Doyoung and his Alexander McQueen suit or Itzy Yeji’s birthday plaid dress–the puffed-up shoulders added a dramatic flair to their otherwise simple outfits. The puffed-up shoulders in Sullyoon of NMIXX’s preppy top make her even more adorable while SHINee’s Onew gives off a sophisticated vibe white his sleek blue suit.
Cropped jackets

Ateez’s Seonghwa made a splash with his cropped jacket for the ‘Rocky’ music video while aespa’s Giselle channelled her edgy persona with a chic, knitted cropped jacket at Coachella. Itzy’s Yuna picked the perfect denim cropped jacket to accentuate her tiny waist while BTS’ Jungkook knew what the fans wanted as he wore a black cropped jacket that showed his body chain during their Las Vegas concert.
