LRT DIARIES—A ROUNDUP OF THE ‘WOMEN IN THE WORLD’ SUMMIT
A one-day summit—'Women In The World'—was held recently at The Taj Mahal Hotel in Delhi. This was the seventh edition of the summit, which is the brainchild of media personality Tina Brown, also known for her bestselling biography on Princess Diana called ‘The Diana Chronicles’. The summit saw women leaders, politicians, activists and political personalities in attendance along with several Bollywood actresses like Madhuri Dixit, Soha Ali Khan, Deepa Mehta, Shabana Azmi, Tara Sharma and Nandita Sen along with leaders such as Naina Lal Kidwai and Ipsita Dasgupta.

The Delhi event covered topics including the Syrian refugee crisis, the recovery of Nigeria's kidnapped girls, discussions based around the movie ‘Fire’ 20 years after its release, social innovations in rural India, reactions to the Paris bombings and more.

Hollywood star Cate Blanchett attended the summit and moderated a session on the refugee crisis twice in the day. Along with this she also discussed her phenomenal movie career as well as her work with Indian Director Shekar Kapur in the film Elizabeth.

Keeping with the feel of the event, the Bollywood stars dressed to suit the occasion.

Actress Soha Ali Khan discussed the pressures of conforming to beauty in a panel, which included model Lakshmi Menon and filmmaker R Balki. Dressed in a pretty white blouse and black striped pencil skirt, Soha looked quite elegant.

Madhuri Dixit spoke about the journey and the arrival of the Indian film industry in terms of giving major opportunities to women in all aspects of film making beyond just choreography or hair and makeup. Her dressing was definitely a bit off for the event, but her effervescence and charm made up for all that was missing.

Tara Sharma wore a colour coordinated outfit of black and white with contrasting open toed orange heels which brought a cool edge to her dressing.

Shabana Azmi added a dash of pizzazz to her winter dressing with a scarf and a matching flower as an accessory.

Nandita Sen in her usual simple, yet beautiful way, looked great in pallazzos and kurta combination.

Suhail Seth and Sanjay Sharma were also spotted at the summit.

As with previous years, this year was a great success and was wonderful to see media personalities lending their hand to spread awareness and discuss issues which affect women everywhere.

We hope this summit is a success like this in the coming years also.
