Sonam Kapoor really knows how to get a look right! Wearing a black Elie Saab gown with lace cut-outs in the front that showed off her legs; black strappy shoes, diamond ear cuffs, hair in a voluminous bun and pink lips – she was a picture of perfection.

On the other end of the colour spectrum from Sonam was Deepika Padukone, wearing a Dior gown in a pale, pastel peachy-pink. She kept her hair off the face by tying it up partly and kept the makeup also subtle with a glossy pinkish-nude lip colour. The dangling earrings added an extra touch of charm to the already pretty, princess look.

Back to black. Bipasha Basu wore a Namrata Joshipura sequined gown in black with a transparent lower half and a sexy slit that showed off her worked-out legs. The gown needed a perfect fit to show off its beauty and Bipasha did full justice to it. We loved her open hair look with the side-swept soft curls, especially how it was styled away from her face at the hair line, only to fall with a flourish on her left shoulder. Lovely red lips finished the look. She accessorised with statement jewellery – a futuristic design cuff bracelet.

Neha Dhupia definitely has oodles of style. This was made apparent by her choice of the stunning off-white Anamika Khanna outfit. We loved the detailing in the draping of the outfit, as well as the beautiful patch of embroidery that made this outfit stand out. She paired the outfit with nude-beige heels, kept her hair pulled back in a clean, low bun with a middle parting, and finished the look with pinkish nude lips and nicely done smokey eyes.

Huma Qureshi wore a unique Gauri and Nainika gown in blue with white detailing on it. Quite different from the normal gowns and one that she paired perfectly with diamond ear-cuffs and a statement ring. (The gown is so dramatic that the subtle accessorising worked perfectly with it). She also kept her hair to one side with soft curls and did a bright pink mouth as a contrast to the gown.
LRT Tips
- When wearing an elaborate gown, it’s important to keep the accessories to the minimum. It’s best to accessorise with statement jewellery.
- Make sure the hair is off the neck in a nice bun or top knot, or styled to show at least one shoulder. A dressy gown will always require hair to be styled well. Just walking out with open hair will not do the trick.
- Keep the eye makeup subtle, and the lips prominent (as in the case of Sonam). Or if the outfit will allow for darker eyes (like Neha’s), then keep the lips subtle.
- Let the outfit do the talking and complement it with either a lip colour, or eye makeup, but don’t ever overdo it, with dark eyes and dark lips. It’s very rare that one can pair both and make it look good.
- If showing legs via a slit or through lace cut-outs, always make sure that your legs are clean and very well moisturised. Nothing can be a bigger put-off than dry, flaky skin or hairy body parts.
- Dust a bit of bronzer on your shoulder blades, your shoulders and your legs—depending on what is visible once you wear the outfit.
- Lastly, complement your gown with nice heels. No clunky shoes please!
