The three adjectives she would use to describe the Zara Umrigar girl: Feminine, chic and edgy.

Inspired by architecture, Zara tells us that she, “Loves lines and abstract formations. I’m always inspired by London, its blend between modern and old-world charm and my mother who has been a big inspiration to be as I have always been in awe of her talent.”

When asked who her biggest inspirations are, the petite designer replied, “Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad.” And with an answer like that, which so perfectly marries the classic with a hint of glamour, you can stay assured that Zara and her designs are here for the long-haul.

She describes her current collection as bold, sexy and dark. Clean silhouettes paired with edgy embroidery. “I want to keep experimenting and pushing boundaries while sticking to a certain classic aesthetic. All of my pieces are hand-embroidered and I pay a lot of attention to detail,” says the designer.

Crop tops and mid-length skirts are the current fads that Zara is drawn to, which is evident in her collection.

When asked how to give the coveted floral trend a twist, Zara says, “I love mixing geometric designs with floral ones—they contradict each other and create dimension. I work with different kinds of embroidery in the same piece to switch it up and give it more character.”

On whom she enjoys styling and who she looks forward to style, she says, “I have enjoyed seeing my designs on Sonakshi Sinha. Her sense of style has evolved and she’s been looking amazing. One celebrity I would love to put my designs on is Blake Lively. No one carries off a gown like she does. Closer to home, I’d love to see Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut in a Zara Umrigar creation.”

When asked to recommend one cocktail number for our BB reader, Zara suggests “A coral or blush pink embroidered crop top and a midi skirt with contrasting embroidery.”
