SCULPTED TO THRILL—GAURAV GUPTA BRINGS LFW W/F 2015 TO A CLOSE
After a stellar show two seasons ago at the Lakmé Fashion Week, it was only certain that Gaurav Gupta would pull all the stops after being chosen as the Grand Finale designer to bring this edition of LFW to a close (read his pre-show interview with us here.) Obviously, he didn’t disappoint!

Theme

Going back a season, Gaurav Gupta worked with the Sculpt theme.

Set

The set was a giant goddess-like female figurine with her hair billowing, perched atop a white mountain with dunes.

What we loved

Gaurav Gupta has always been known to play with textures and forms, which results in dramatic, bias-cut, sculpted pieces with sheer and cut-out details. The line stunningly captured the synergy between the movement and form.

The designer pulled off dune like structures through his signature boning and silver rivulets. Adding to the theatrics and craftsmanship were the gigantic ruffles and an interplay of sheer and texture with strategically placed surface embellishments on red, white and black gowns.

One shoulder gowns with mermaid like ruffles and side cut-outs stood out and so did the monochrome abstract prints on gowns referencing an undulating landscape. Models strutted around completing their looks with white and black booties.

The show had three vibes—the girls in white had a certain angelic like quality to the them while the ones in black emitted a goth goddess élan. The girls in red radiated a festive, celebratory appeal.

Who is the Gaurav Gupta girl?

The Gaurav Gupta girl is a far cry from your girl-next-door ingénue. She revels in glamour and always turns heads with her dramatic ensemble flair.

Make-up and hair

Gaurav's girls sported a red lip and tied their hair into a top knot.

What could have been better

There was nothing every day, ready-to-wear about the collection and every piece had a couture-quality finish. We wish there were few sporty jumpers and separates, which would have made it more multi-dimensional.

Showstopper

Kareena Kapoor Khan wore a sheer and black sculpted gown and took to the ramp with confidence sporting a red lip. As she walked, there was a burst of white confetti—a befitting end to the finale of the 15th season of  Lakmé Fashion Week.
