Here’s how coffee can help you achieve longer, stronger locks

Most of us cannot start the day without our morning cup of coffee. It instantly energises the body and prepares us to face the day. And did you know coffee can have the same effect on your hair? According to research, caffeine in coffee can promote hair growth and improve your hair’s quality when applied topically. But that doesn’t mean you can go on a coffee overdose. In fact, consuming too much coffee can negatively affect hair growth and slow it down.

These days, a lot of hair care products like shampoos, conditioners and treatments contain caffeine. Using these caffeine-infused hair products and its topical application can induce hair growth. Here are three ways in which coffee promotes hair growth.

1) Helps suppress DHT

Caffeine targets the hormone DHT, which is responsible for causing hair loss. DHT prevents vitamins, proteins and other essential nutrients required for hair growth from reaching the hair follicles. Caffeine combats this issue by producing more ATP, which is an energy form responsible for hair growth. Drinking moderate amounts of coffee and applying caffeine-infused products can lead to long, strong and healthy hair.

2) Speeds up the growth cycle

According to Dr Toby Fischer’s research, caffeine can increase hair length by 33-40%. It does this by prolonging the anagen phase, also known as the hair growth phase. During this time, it targets hair follicles and speeds up the growth cycle. If you feel your hair growth has become stagnant, adding an extra cup of coffee to your daily routine may improve your hair’s health.

3) Promotes healthy hair

Caffeine not only promotes hair growth but also ensures that the new hair strands are healthy. It does this by increasing the blood circulation to the scalp and stimulating the roots. If you can’t get your hands on a coffee-infused hair care product, here’s how to make use of the coffee in your house. Mix ground coffee beans with olive oil and apply to the scalp as a scrub or rinse your hair with cold, brewed coffee for best results.
