Red Is The New Black

Red is the new black
We all know that the Fall/Winter 2014 runways were blushing with this colour. It is feisty but approachable, bold but not overwhelming, and we love it on our clothes just as we love them on our plushest roses. We’re talking about red. Yes, all of it – crimson, tomato, oxblood, burgundy, neon and deep berries. It is no surprise that red’s association with femininity has been undisputed for years now. And we think it may be the perfect substitute for all things ‘black’ in your closet. Don’t believe us? Click through to be pleasantly surprised.

Replace your monotone pantsuit and plaids at the office with a strikingly professional red body con. Add a black skinny belt to break the colour and keep it no-nonsense. All you need now is a pair of kitten black heels and off you go.

When we first took a look at this baby, we fell in love instantly. As sweet and colourful as candy, this button down makes for a versatile staple that can be paired with casual skinny jeans and a sexy broderié pencil skirt alike.

We’ve had the long, short, midi and maxi of LBDs already. So, go forth and replace your black number with a smouldering peplum number in crimson. We love the glamour this Koovs dress embodies. A pair of high nude sling back heels is all you need to make it a cracker of a party look.

The black jean trend might just be having a competitive moment with its red counterpart. Pair up your ditsy everyday soft beige blouse with your most comfy deep red trousers to add drama to your look.

You don’t only have to stick to blacks and nudes for the office. Wear a muted ensemble and give it a burst of some cherry red with this gorgeous bowler bag that is functional and is a 10 on 10 style wise.

There’s nothing like ringing in the best season of the year with deep berries and wild reds. Ditch your black and brown leather boots and snuggle your feet in a pair of beautiful wine-red booties instead.

As fiery as this hue is, we get that it may take a while for you to warm up to it and sport it full on. Why not start with a blazer? This tomato red long-line blazer by Marc Cain can be paired with lovely printed trousers in contrast or even beige chinos.

Thanks to Christian Louboutin’s infamous red soles, the colour made its way to our shoe closets faster than ever. We’ve been aficionados of red stilettoes for a while now, but this season, it is sling backs that have hit the runway by storm – shorter in height, more comfy, and inspired straight from the 50s. What’s not to love?

You’ll have to be a bit adventurous, but it will be worth every bit! Ditch the squares and ovals and instead, embrace the kissy lips clutch bag. While it may not be suited for everyday wear, you can totally work this trend by downplaying the rest of your look a.k.a keep your prints and silhouettes fairly clean.

Changing my career to fashion at the age of 27 was a risk that I'm glad I took! I don't think there is any substitute for hard work. I can be overly shy and self conscious one day and feel like I can conquer the world the next. You have to try my caramel pudding and chicken soup and don't even dare playing charades with me—I'm super competitive. I love what I do and am always looking for a way to take it up a notch!
