If you are new to the hair spray club, then let us begin by telling you that there are a ton of hair sprays out there that serve different purposes. From a volumising and texturising spray to a hold and finish spray—*phew*— the many variations can make your head (or hair) spin.
So, if you are wondering what to do with that spray bottle lying on your shelf, just ask us and we'll guide you. Here are a few tips to keep in mind while using a hair spray, so you look like you have a hairstylist on speed dial!
- Tip #1: Hold the spray can at least six inches away from your hair
- Tip #2: Say goodbye to flyaways by applying the product with your hands
- Tip #3: Take your curls into consideration
- Tip #4: To tame the wisps around your face, use a toothbrush
- Tip #5: Avoid brushing through your locks after using a hair spray
Tip #1: Hold the spray can at least six inches away from your hair

The basic rule of spritzing your hair spray for optimum hold is to keep a distance. When you spray too close to the roots, you risk saturating your hair, which may tend to look greasy, and not shiny. And that’s not all! Doing so may also dispense too much product onto one area and that could result in stiff hair.
Tip #2: Say goodbye to flyaways by applying the product with your hands

Hair sprays do a great job in taming flyaways. However, avoid applying the product directly on your tresses. Take some in between your palms and lightly pat it onto your flyaways in order to manage them. This trick can work wonders especially when you want to tame a single curl or touch up your bangs.
Tip #3: Take your curls into consideration

The problem with curly hair is that if you use your spray the way you would use it for any other hair texture, the curls may stick together, and you’ll lose the bounce. Therefore, it is ideal to lightly spray your curls section-by-section to enhance your look with tons of movement and definition.
Tip #4: To tame the wisps around your face, use a toothbrush

For the smaller areas, such as the wisps around your face, avoid spritzing directly because you don’t want too much product there, and you risk getting it on your skin. Instead, simply spritz some spray onto a toothbrush and run the brush lightly over the areas that need some taming.
Tip #5: Avoid brushing through your locks after using a hair spray

If you don’t want unnecessary breakage, do not brush your hair after you’ve used a hair spray. Combing through locks that have been sprayed with a strong hold spray can cause damage to your mane because you’ve already locked your style in place.
