Homemade nut butter is a fantastic alternative to packaged peanut butter or really any other spreadable condiment. First off, you’ve got all the power that nuts have, and secondly, you give the sugar and excess oils a miss—and trust us, you’ll be in for a shock when you find out exactly how much sugar goes into a bottled jar of Skippy. Instead blend up the nuts at home in your mixy—you won’t need to add any extra oil, because nuts contain a lot of natural oils so when you blend them, that oil will release to give the nuts a buttery like texture. Albeit, they’ll turn out slightly chunkier than your used to, but that’s a small price to pay for health, is it not?

That nuts are good for you is common knowledge. What’s also common knowledge is the somewhat not so appetizing nature of plain nuts. So why not take a handful of salted nuts: peanuts, cashews, almonds—the likes, mix them up with some chewy raisins add in some bits of chocolate and make your very own batch of trail mix. Sure, you could do without the chocolate and salt—but if it makes for an appetizing snack that’s full of nutrients from the nuts, it’s not so bad of an option, eh?

Make your very own inventive candy with fruit leather! Fruit leather is just a fancy way of saying flattened fruit, but it tastes almost like a childhood favourite: fruit roll-up! These homemade fruit rolls can be made with any fruits and also dates! They’re deliciously chewy and fun to eat. All you need to do is puree dried fruit onto a flat surface and let it dry. Once it’s dried, pull it from the surface and roll up. You can add in some spices, lemon juice, shredded coconut and other such frills to your puree to add some extra flavour to your rolls.
