IT'S BOLLYWOOD RAZZLE DAZZLE AT ABU SANDEEP'S OPENING SHOW AT LFW
Aptly titled ‘Jawani Jaaneman,’ the Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla's opening show at the Lakmé Fashion Week was an ode to the glamour of 70s and 80s. The era of excess and in-your-face glamour documented in Bollywood songs and Donna Summer's eternal anthem—‘I feel love.’

Ambience

The ramp was gleaming black and lit by an array of shiny disco balls which reflected the lights as models sashayed down.

Music

From ‘I feel love’ to ‘Aaj ki raat’ to the show-stopping ‘Jawani Jaaneman’—every song made you want to stand up and shake a leg.

Choreography

The models grooved, flirted a little with each other and also danced wildly channelling their inner bohemian. Candice Pinto and Jesse Randhawa set the ramp ablaze with their groovy dance moves. The show felt more like a Bollywood dance-inspired soiree than a fashion event.

Make-up and hair

The girls wore their hair up in a bouffant and opted for gold and silver eye shadow which complemented their sequinned outfit beautifully.

What we loved about the show…

From capturing the flower power vibe which came in the form of the brand's signature thread embroidery to paying a tribute to Scotland in the form of checks essayed in pattis and sequins, the show spelled unapologetic glamour.

An interplay of sheer and sequins to chikankari kissed with Swarovski crystals to lace and cut-work mirror and faux leather—each outfit screamed a bride who has a strong sense of identity. Appliqué and Swarovski were generously used to churn out ornate saris.

The darlings of India's caviar set stuck to their signature colour palette comprising off-whites, creams, beiges and ash grey, accented with bursts of pop colours. Gowns made of duchess satin, organza and net stood out thanks to dramatic flounces, pleats and ruffles. Multi-colour stones and bugle beads took the texturing and surface embellishments to another level.

Who is the Abu Sandeep bride?

She's bold and daring and wants to make a statement and own every room she walks into. She doesn't shy away from flashing her décolletage at her cocktail do and also likes to do the disco with her bridesmaids.

What could have been better…

We wish the designer had also presented some easy breezy separates which a bride may want to wear in the run up to the wedding day. In addition, we saw hardly any everyday pieces which could be paired with ready-to-wear numbers like a pair of denims or a mini skirt. Also, some pieces felt overworked and obstructed movement. A little bit of editing in embellishments would have made the offerings more palatable, we think!
