Whether you’re makeup minimalist or a full-fledged beauty junkie, it’s important to master the art of blending concealer. A poorly done blending job results in one of two things—exposes every blemish it was meant to hide, or it sits on your face as a mountain of product and ends up attracting attention due it being under-blended. And so, if you’re looking for that perfect way to blend your concealer, you’ve come to the right place.
However, before you perfect your technique, you should make sure you’re using the right shade of concealer. You’re probably thinking you need to have a concealer that’s the same colour as your skin tone. Well, you aren’t entirely wrong, but the shade of concealer you use depends on what you’re trying to cover.
Now that you know what shade of concealer you need to use, let’s move on to how you can perfectly blend the product.
1. Stippling
Stippling, which is actually a painting technique, is basically the process where an artist creates a scene with thousands of paint spots— a principle that can be applied to hiding imperfections on our skin. So, instead of swiping concealer onto a spot and rubbing it in— an action that can displace the rest of your makeup— use a makeup brush to stipple concealer on and around the area you’re trying to hide. This repeated motion will make sure the rest of your makeup stays put, and will allow the concealer to melt into your skin for a flawless appearance.
2. Using a Beautyblender
The Beautyblender is a one-of-a-kind latex-free makeup sponge that helps you get a professional makeup finish right at home. This egg-shaped makeup sponge can be used to apply different kinds of product, right from foundation and concealer, to powder. In order to blend your concealer with a Beautyblender, all you need to do is pour a dab of concealer onto the back of your hand, and then dip the tip of a dampened Beautyblender into it. Then, apply the concealer over the area you’re looking to cover by patting the sponge over it. After applying the concealer, dip the rounded end of the Beautyblender into some setting powder, and lightly pat it over the concealer to make sure it doesn’t get displaced.
3. Tapping
If you prefer using your fingers to blend your makeup, then this technique is for you. What you need to do is apply a dab of concealer over the blemish you want to hide, and then with your ring finger (it’s the weakest finger), tap the product into your skin. You need to make sure you don’t rub the product all over, as this will swipe off any other makeup you’re wearing. The patting and pressing motion basically keeps the concealer where it’s supposed to be, and allows you to use way less product than you otherwise would.
