Do a trial run

“Don’t be afraid to check yourself out on camera,” says Niyanta. “Maybe you’re having a flawless skin day or a good hair day or your eye makeup turned out better than ever. The front camera is your best mirror and best friend!” She recommends taking as many shots as possible to find the one that resembles the one you want everyone to see.
Selfie secret: Only one out of every five selfies you snap will be half as decent as you want it to be. Remember, practice makes perfect.
Trick lighting

Lighting, insists Niyanta, is nothing but a trick to accentuate your best features and hide your faults. “You need to have good lighting to show off your gorgeous jawline or hide that nasty blemish with a shadow. I always move the camera around to find the best lighting. If I can’t, I simply adjust the exposure in my phone settings.”
Selfie secret: Natural light is always preferred over artificial light. If working with light is too difficult, rely on the Pond’s White Beauty BB Cream to look au naturel and blemish-free.
Run a background check

An unwritten selfie commandment – No selfies in the washroom. And yet…
“Most of my selfies are taken while commuting,” she confesses, “…but I do recommend a solid background or a setting complimenting your overall look. The neon patterned top you’re wearing will be more noticeable if there is less clutter at the background.”
Selfie Secret: Rely on contrasting backgrounds and crop the excesses out of your selfie if required
Be true to your silly self

“Snapping your silly self can be super fun! Pull a fish face or a surprised look that won’t overshadow your best features,” she says. “And different expressions highlight different parts of your face. So work it, girl!”
Selfie Secret: Snap whatever photo you want, just make sure the caption reads like something that your friends would hear you say.
Now that our selfie goddess Niyanta gave us the lowdown, it’s time to put your skills to the test. Snap a selfie, share it with us here and get the chance to find your face on a Pond’s billboard. Sound tempting enough? Start snapping!
Adding more length

Geometry applies to selfies too! A gem of advice from Niyanta, “The higher the angle of the camera, the taller and leaner you appear. So choose the side or the angle you like, be still and confident to click the lean, mean, clean selfie. It’ll make your face seem longer and your cheekbones higher.”
Selfie Secret: One side of your face always photographs better than the other. For perfectly chiselled cheekbones rely on a solid bronzer.
