On the floral jewellery trend…

Different brides have different requirements—some prefer very traditional jewellery, while others love to experiment with a contemporary look. This year, our latest collection is very classical, highlighting the Indian elements in it. In addition to flowers, we are using a lot of ghungroos, meenakari beads and the kundan art form.

On floral head-pieces…

It’s an age-old tradition, where brides put fresh flowers in their bun. Previously, brides preferred gajaras, but today there is the demand for floral motifs with semi-precious jewels. We even get orders to make hair accessories like the rakodi and pasa with flowers.

On using local floral options to create a modern look for a contemporary wedding…

By using various design techniques, you can use local produce to create a modern design. However, we have experienced that there is no wedding in which marigolds, tuberoses and jasmines are not used—in some form or another for at least one of the functions.

On how you can keep your mandap looking elegant and classy instead of overdone and gaudy…

Today, couples love to explore and experiment with colours and fabrics as well as the choice of flowers. We would advise our clients to keep it simple. Let the design add character to the space you are in. We list out the favourite things the couple and the family look forward to seeing at the event and then, depending on budgets, location, and the timeframe available, we pick the essential elements and develop designs accordingly. Personally, we recommend keeping the mandap traditional as the ambience complements the rituals and ceremonies. Other events, such as the cocktail party or reception can adorn a contemporary look. We make the couple understand that it is not the volume bur rather the colours that will create the impact. A white décor can be augmented by red flowers or a pink décor can be illuminated by violet fabric and violet floral installations. In short, the floral design has to be in sync with the set design.

On their most elaborate design…

Every wedding or event brings with it a unique experience. If I have to pick one, it would be the petal shower we did for a mandap where it looked like a million showering petals were frozen in time. It was breath-taking and the reaction from the bride and groom was truly priceless.

On when a couple should get in touch with their florists in the wedding planning process…

Ideally, the wedding florist should be contacted at least six months in advance so that there is ample time to choose and finalise the required design and fit it within the scale and budget.

On recommending flowers for a humid-climate…

Since, people love flowers like orchids, roses, jasmine and chrysanthemums in their décor; we keep flowers in reefer containers, which can be termed as cold storage systems. However, if the wedding takes place outdoors and the climate is humid, we advise our client to choose from tropical flowers like anthuriums, heliconia, shampoo-ginger, ginger lily and other such options.

Fresh off the yacht into this editorial world, I look forward to bringing in a fresh, beautiful perspective.
