What is phubbing and how you can stop doing it
As defined by the Internet, phubbing (noun informal) is the practice of ignoring one's companion or companions in order to pay attention to one's phone or other mobile device. So basically, all those times your friends totally snubbed you in the middle of a conversation to check the new notifications that popped up or to simply scroll through their Insta feed (to see how many Likes their latest upload has garnered) because they thought it completely OK to do so…that's phubbing.

According to Merriam Webster, phubbing is an invented word (combining the words ‘phone’ and ‘snubbing’) that might be too useful to ignore. And we couldn't agree more, for it was about time people were called out for being absolutely rude! So if you don’t want to be one of them, here are a few ways to stop phubbing.

Keep the <a href="https://www.bebeautiful.in/lifestyle/wellness/would-you-dare-to-try-digital-detox">phone aside</a>

Give yourself a reality check

Believe us, this isn't the hardest thing in the world. If the friends you've been texting all day are right there sitting in front of you, you barely have a reason to phub anymore. Try this one Pinterest-adapted trick of stacking up your phones on the table, with the screens facing downwards. First one to check their phone pays the bill! Win win.

Disable notifications

Or if putting your phone away is so difficult, change your notification settings to Priority. So you're no longer bothered about random friends posting their Insta Story for the first time in a while and only have priority notifications popping up. You could also go cold turkey and enable the Silent mode, and it still wouldn't be the end of the world.

Ditch the power bank

Give yourself a reality check

This ought to keep you in check because without a backup charger, you’ll automatically be inclined towards using your battery sparingly. Although, if despite that, you’re still tempted to fidget with your phone, then the struggle to find a charger that matches your phone ought to teach you a lesson on phubbing.

Lastly, consciously give yourself a reality check of how quality time was being wasted on pointless scrolls-through your phone. Do you really see yourself as one of those kids falling prey to the Internet when you’re in the company of such real people? If you ever wondered whatever happened to having deep and meaningful conversations with your best friends—here’s what happened! Phubbing.
