Go Metallic On White!

Go metallic on white!
If white is a summer anthem then we have a stanza to add! There are more than a million ways to don the pure palette and this month, we think that toughening up your delicate whites with metal undertones is the way to go. Be it a statement bag, killer kicks, scorching accessories or glittering embroidery—there’s something about metallic accents that gives white an unmatchable dose of power and pop.

We admit we are infatuated with the white and rose gold pairing and for good reason. Check out Nikhil Thampi’s collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Spring Resort, 2014, and you’ll see why. Every piece of the collection was a master class on how to perfect the white-and-metal combo. The addition of rose gold motifs on white linen collars and that skinny belt soften the metallic toughness adding femininity and oomph.

This dhoti sari had us enamoured. A creation by designer Jyotee Khaitan, we couldn't help but think of it as Cleopatra meets the rebellious Indian bride. What really lends character to this ensemble is the use of bronze baroque appliqués on the leather trims. The perfectly shaped sequinned Peter Pan collar neckpiece also scored a ten on ten from us.

Give those high heels a break without losing much height! Yes, ladies, wedge sneakers have become quite a hit in the shoe circuit. Uber comfortable and superbly stylish, they can be paired with almost anything except a cocktail gown. We adore these iridescent silver kicks by Charles & Keith and how they glam up that solid white midi dress. Just when we thought the look might appear washed out, this striking combo goes ahead and proves us wrong.

Changing my career to fashion at the age of 27 was a risk that I'm glad I took! I don't think there is any substitute for hard work. I can be overly shy and self conscious one day and feel like I can conquer the world the next. You have to try my caramel pudding and chicken soup and don't even dare playing charades with me—I'm super competitive. I love what I do and am always looking for a way to take it up a notch!
