MICRO TREND: IT’S ALL ABOUT DHOTI PANTS THIS FESTIVE SEASON
Indian designers literally went back to their roots this Lakmé Fashion Week with a revival of the humble dhoti pants focussing on the variations and wearability of the garment. Right from glitzy glam gold to the raw and edgy khadi, designers left no stone unturned to give the piece a contemporary rebirth.

Slit dhoti

Designers Ankur Modi and Priyanka Modi borrowed the high slit from the international runways to give the dhoti a modern upgrade. In flowy fabric and pristine white, we would interpret their invention as quite a clever move to make Indians fall in love with the pants all over again.

Drape dhoti

Krishna Mehta offered a dramatic take on the style and played around with basic prints on stiff fabrics. The dhoti exudes a boho look which could easily be worn with a white shirt for a festive look that easy on the eye.

Chudidar Dhoti

Nikhil Thampi surely does know how to make a woman look her graceful best. His take on the dhoti was a royal gold chudidar style that would work fantastically well for the upcoming wedding and festive season. What made the dhoti unique was the lace at the bottom that lends a unique romantic edge to the otherwise glamorous piece.

Dual toned dhoti

To make the festive season a tad more stylish, designer Payal Singhal introduced us to a dual toned dhoti in black and gold. A roomy and versatile option, we suggest a cute pairing with a gold baby doll kurta and killer heels to suit the festive and wedding alike.

The most practical option of all, Armaan Aiman sent his models in chiffon dhoti skirts. His style can be easily termed as ‘anytime wear’ due to its fluid constructions and a rich colour palette that could be worn with a jacket for festivities and with a white shirt and blazer for office occasions.
