BOUND TOGETHER BOMBAY—A BOOKCLUB FOR ALL SEASONS
Few things are better than a cup of piping hot coffee and good book to experience a world different from our own—and no one agrees with that philosophy better than locals Delnaz Joshi and Aarti Chandhok-Kapoor—founders of the riveting Bound Together Bombay, a book club. Their group of avid readers get together at a café every month and a half to discuss literature that they have collectively voted on. BeBEAUTIFUL had a little tête-à-tête with the pair—read on and see what you’ve been missing out on.

Any genre preferences, ladies?

Which has been your favourite book that you’ve discussed at BTB and your least favourite?

Delnaz: A huge mix but I prefer the classics.

Aarti:
On the other hand, I prefer new age authors; I enjoy books where I am able to connect with a character or the setting of the story in some way. Del and I have different reading styles and we encourage all reading preferences at our club.

Where would you like to see BTB go?

Which has been your favourite book that you’ve discussed at BTB and your least favourite?

Delnaz: I’m quite happy with the way things are going.

Aarti: While I’m thrilled with the way it is shaping up, I would want to build this club as a platform to encourage new age and upcoming authors and poets. I would also like to eventually tie up with a publishing house or an online bookstore (Flipkart/Amazon) where we can get discounts for our readers on the books shortlisted for the month. We all have old books we don't read and by doing a book exchange or donation drive we can spread the love and adventure that these books have in store for others to enjoy as well as well the underprivileged. We have already donated books to a club library once and would like to make it an annual exercise.

What are you currently reading?

Which has been your favourite book that you’ve discussed at BTB and your least favourite?

Delnaz: Daniel Deronda

Aarti:
Maharaja in Denims by Khushwant Singh and will move onto Sea of poppies by Amitav Ghosh after that.

Which has been your favourite book that you’ve discussed at BTB and your least favourite?

Which has been your favourite book that you’ve discussed at BTB and your least favourite?

Delnaz: Obviously J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye has been one of my favourites. I also liked Toni Morrison’s Beloved—that’s been one of my favourites. My least favourite was Old Goriot by Balzac—it’s a very tedious book and I also didn’t like Kundera for his warped and perverse view of reality.

Aarti: I too really liked Beloved by Toni Morrison and I also liked Sputnik Sweetheart by Haruki Murakami.

As the esteemed Dorothy Parker once said "living well is the best revenge" and I take that piece of advice to heart. A babe in the woods for all things theatrical--I like to see drama in the mundane. Fresh off the yacht into this editorial world, I look forward to bringing in a fresh, beautiful perspective.
